Quay Street Site

Quay Street Site
THIS SUPERB HARBOUR-FACING SITE WILL EVENTUALLY BE DEVELOPED WITH A WORLD-CLASS BUILDING, HELPING OPEN UP THIS IMPORTANT AREA OF THE WATERFRONT TO THE CITY.
This is a very special site in a prime location on Auckland’s harbour front. It has a significant connection with the waterfront, which will become even more important once the development of nearby Queens Wharf begins.
The site is currently occupied by the Seafarers Building, built in the 1970s and long earmarked for replacement. Britomart owner Cooper and Company has obtained a private plan change for the site, allowing the construction of a building up to 55 metres tall, similar in height to the adjacent East Complex.
Design and uses
Any building developed on the Quay Street Site will have panoramic views and be itself prominently visible from the water. Cooper and Company believes it is vital that whatever is built here does justice to the unique location, while still preserving and enhancing the special character of the Britomart precinct.
In due course Cooper and Company will commission designs for the site from among the world’s leading architectural practices. Possible uses for the building include a boutique hotel or apartments.
Whatever the building becomes, it will incorporate ground-floor public amenities to help energise this part of Quay Street and stimulate public use of the waterfront.
