THE TWIN PAVILIONS OF THIS STUNNING NEW RETAIL DEVELOPMENT ARE LINKED BY THE SANCTUARY GARDEN, A COURTYARD CONTAINING SEVEN CARVED POU BY CHRIS BAILEY.
The Showcase is a new luxury shopping development at the centre of the precinct, home to designer fashion gallery Curate, Apple retailer and technology store Yoobee and apparel stores Onitsuka Tiger and Timberland.
Across Te Ara Tāhuhu Walking Street are pop-up shoe boutique Kathryn Wilson, the Trelise Cooper Boardroom concept store and a valet parking drop-off point.
The twin structures of the Showcase are linked by the Sanctuary Garden, a courtyard space containing seven carved pou by Waiheke artist Chris Bailey. The work is entitled ‘Pou Tū Te Rangi’, or ‘the standing posts that reach for the heavens’.
Designed by Nat Cheshire for Cheshire Architects, the Showcase is constructed from structural steel clad with purpose-designed perforated black aluminium panels. At night the structure glows, lit by over 1200 linear metres of LED lighting.
The construction design and build were undertaken by Stanley Construction. The structure took around five months to build and was completed at the end of August 2011. The Showcase is a medium-term development located on the Britomart Central future development site.
