The Worrall’s commissioned architect John Currie to design a warehouse building for their crockery business. In 1910 the building was erected for £2,000. In 1920 W.R Twigg, motor engineer’s leased the ground and first floors from Worrall. In 1937 Twigg purchased the Worralls’ interest and became the sole occupant.
W.R Twigg met his untimely demise after “an encounter with a lion” while game hunting in Zimbabwe (then known as Rhodesia) and the company was run by W.E Brooke Taylor until 1972. In 1973 Clichy’s restaurant opened for business and in the 1990’s it became the Kiwi Tavern.
In the mid 1990’s the property was vested in the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Regional Council.
This building has been cleaned out and the services reinstated and is now leased to the following tenants on an interim basis.
This building will be restored as part of the redevelopment of the Britomart Precinct
