WITH THE PARED-BACK, FUNCTIONAL AESTHETIC OF A NEW YORK DELI, PRECINCT’S MINIMALIST SURROUNDS LEAVE THE FOCUS ON THE CAFE’S REAL BUSINESS: SUPERB COFFEE AND FOOD.

From this small, spare space tucked away down Tyler Street emerges a steady supply of wonderful things to eat, plying the workers of Britomart.

Inspired by the simple, excellent street food offerings of the great culinary capitals of the world, Precinct contains barely a dozen tables: it’s all about great food to go. The menu is small but speaks of lovingly sourced and selected ingredients, the simplest combinations elevated by freshness and quality.

The industrial sensibility of this high-ceilinged space is both modern – white, steel and glass – and historic. Rough timber pillars, whitewashed wood panelling and vintage-style tiles all allude to the industrial heritage of the Union Fish Company Building.

Fast, healthy breakfasts and lunches

Precinct’s mission is ‘the best paper bag lunch in town’, including bagels and pressed sandwiches of Turkish pide and Tuscan schiacciata flatbread. Combinations range from simple prosciutto, gruyere and mustard to elegant artichoke, gorgonzola and black truffle mayonnaise.

There’s a strong healthy-eating offering, including sashimi rice noodle salad and mixed grain quinoa salad, as well as sweet counter indulgences that change daily. The drinks list includes superb Allpress coffee, smoothies and zingy fresh juices.
