Drop into the new Britomart Shaky Isles any time of the day and you’ll find them open, amped and ready to serve up some seriously good hospitality.

This second outlet of the much-loved cafe has plenty in common with its Kingsland cousin: signature cartoon graphics, offbeat interior design details and large-scale text reminders of why coffee is good for your personality.

The Britomart Shaky Isles, however, has an atmosphere all its own. Occupying the Customs Street East side of Excelsior House and extending into neighbouring Stanbeth House, it’s a large, characterful space that celebrates the layers of the building’s history.

Interesting historic details include the big wooden warehouse doors, ceiling rosettes and original rafters and exposed swathes of brick and plaster – all overlaid with lashings of Shaky Isles attitude.

Good stuff on a plate

The excellent food menu includes many staples beloved of Shaky regulars, including crumpets every which way, the famous Shaky burgers and the straight-talking pig in a bun. Add to that the thickshakes, the large selection of sweet and savoury counter food – and did we mention the damn fine coffee?
