Britomart Movers & Shakers: David Fletcher
DESCRIBE WHAT YOUR BUSINESS DOES IN A NUTSHELL.
Smith is a small and imperfect, intimate oasis amongst the cacophony and hustle and bustle of downtown Auckland. We soothe the weary traveller and the young corporate warrior and offer respite from the elements and the evil forces of thirst and hunger.
WHAT FILLS YOUR DAY?
I drag my weary old bones into Smith and have a coffee or Red Bull to gear up. Then set up for the day and greet my fellow co-workers with a cheery smile and a high-five. We then spend the evening serving our patrons, having a laugh, and enjoying the atmosphere. I can honestly say I love my job.
DESCRIBE YOUR BRITOMART.
My Britomart is a place where the people of Auckland can meet and unite their individual fires into one burning bright flame.
WHO ELSE DO YOU WISH WOULD DISCOVER BRITOMART?
Josh Nathan – he left us too soon...
WHAT’S THE ONE THING THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO COME TO WORK IN THE MORNING?
I don’t ever want to come to work in the morning, that’s why I started working in bars… I’m a total night owl. But I love meeting new people, serving tasty beverages and of course, working with the incredibly talented and good-looking team at Smith. Big ups to C-bomb, Steve Steve, Smile on your Dial, and last but not least, Viv the Rascal.
ARE YOU THE COOK OR THE KITCHEN HAND?
I’m a bit of both. I like to call the shots, but I will also be the first one to jump in and do the shitty jobs.
WHAT TAKES UP MOST OF YOUR TIME WHEN YOU ARE NOT AT BRITOMART?
Thoughts of fame, fortune and world domination.
WHAT MAKES YOU SMILE?
Thoughts of my lovely lady.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ITEM OF CLOTHING?
Flannel shirts from RD1 in Kopu. At $15.95 they are affordable, practical, and effortlessly stylish.
WHAT WOULD YOUR SUPERHERO NAME BE?
Quest Corduroy A.K.A ‘Auto-man’. The scourge of petty car thieves and no-gooders.
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY THRASHING?
My running shoes and boxing gloves – I’m on a bit of a health kick at the mo.
THE COOLEST THING I EVER BOUGHT:
A solo ticket to Thailand to learn Muay Thai at a kickboxing camp in Chiang Mai.
THE BOLDEST THING I EVER DID:
Chase away six thieves at 2am from a break-in at a general store when I was living in Colorado. Dumb, but true.
WHO HAS SOUL:
Eric B and Rakim.
