Dr Seuss Returns to the Lonely Dog Gallery

Dr Seuss Returns to the Lonely Dog Gallery
Following the phenomenal success of its Art of Dr Seuss exhibition last year, Britomart’s Lonely Dog Gallery is delighted to be hosting an encore show of the great man’s distinctive work.
From Thursday 19 May, the Lonely Dog Gallery will display 70 authorised estate editions of Dr Theodor Geisel’s private art works, including pieces from his Secret Art, Unorthodox Taxidermy, Illustrations and Archival Collections. Many of the works will be available for sale through the gallery.
The opening night on 19 May will also see the unveiling of a new 50th anniversary limited-edition print ‘The Sneetches’, which will be on sale.
The Sneetches print is recreated in the same large-scale format as the previous four 50th anniversary serigraphs, ‘Ted’s Cat’, ‘Grinch at Mt Crumpit’, ‘King of the Pond’ and ‘Green Eggs and Ham’, and is similarly available in a small edition of 295.
The exhibition runs at the Lonely Dog Gallery till Sunday 5 June – click here for gallery hours.
The Sneetches
One of Dr Seuss’s wonderfully rich stories is the unforgettable tale of ‘The Sneetches’ – some with stars on their bellies and some without. It is this star, or lack of it, that brilliantly teaches children about social injustice and the senselessness of discrimination.
It was a testament to the genius of the book when in 1998 NATO translated ‘The Sneetches and Other Stories’ into Serbo-Croatian and distributed it to 500,000 children in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of an information campaign to help encourage racial tolerance.
