Farmers' Market on Every Saturday, Rain or Shine

The seasonal weather might be horrible, but the seasonal produce at the City Farmers’ Market is always fabulous, even in the depths of winter.

At the market this Saturday will be avocados from a Whangarei grower, a new addition to the market, and the usual array of fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables.

In season at present are winter veggie staples like potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, cabbage, spinach, leeks and broccoli. Apples, pears, kiwifruit and oranges provide a vitamin boost and a bit of much-needed winter sweetness.

Specialty produce includes delicious homemade peanut butter, jams and relishes, plus smoked fish from Mulleez in Clevedon. There’ll be an array of farm cheeses from Matatoki in Thames and venison salamis, smoked sausages and bier sticks from Basecamp.

Hummus, honey and Hungarian sausages

Other specialty favourites include Israeli hummus and salsa from The Chilli Factor and free range eggs, macadamia nuts and honey from Tui Down Farms in Onewhero. There are cakes and French pastries from Philippe’s Chocolate you can gobble on the spot, pies and fresh breads from Pukeko Bakery.

There’ll also be frozen blueberries from growers in Ardmore and fresh juices from the Urban Fuel Mobile Juice Bar, where they do wheatgrass shots and hot fruit teas too. Other comforts to warm you up include Hungarian sausages served up hot in a roll with salad and freshly brewed coffee from Kokako.

City Farmers’ Market is on at Britomart every Saturday morning in the central spaces of the precinct, from 8.30am to 12.30pm. The hardy stallholders are out there whatever the weather, so come and support them – the tasty treats will make it worth it!

Park at Britomart Car Park and bring your ticket to the market to be validated for a $6 parking special.
