Their tagline is ‘Not just another day at the office’, and for business members’ club Generator it’s all about bringing inspiration into the way people work.
Part business hub, part social club, Generator offers all the functional aspects of a serviced business centre. There are highly specced meeting rooms, fully resourced hot desks and shared workspaces for permanent ‘resident’ members.
What sets Generator apart from your everyday business centre, however, is the emphasis on the more intangible aspects of growing and driving a business.
‘Productivity needs inspiration, so we’ve designed Generator as a place of inspirational spaces,’ says co-founder Scott Kuegler. ‘It’s a creative workspace for small businesses, a landing spot for the travelling worker and a place where members and big business can network, meet or just enjoy a quiet coffee.’
There’s a luxurious lounge and bar area, informal breakout spaces and procrastination devices like Playstation, foosball and Spacies. Against the exposed heritage brick and raw timber pillars there are splashes of bold colour and touches of design flamboyance.
Creative business mix
The resemblance to a funky design agency is no accident: Scott and co-founder Ryan Wilson wanted to recreate the dynamic feel of the creative agency environment.
‘Businesses love spending time at their ad agency. It’s all about energy, creativity, inspirational spaces and cool people who love to talk business,’ says Scott.
To keep that energy fresh, they cultivate a fertile mix of clients ranging from creative freelancers to angel investors to professional services firms. Memberships range from casual ‘now and then’ membership to monthly or annual arrangements.
While Generator is all about getting movers and shakers together, it’s definitely not a place to throw egos around.
‘We’re not interested in obnoxious people talking loudly about the size of their latest deal,’ says Scott. ‘We’ve got a definite no tossers policy.’
