Road Closures in Precinct for RWC Opening Night

Road Closures in Precinct for RWC Opening Night
The Rugby World Cup Opening Night on Friday 9 September is being billed as the biggest party New Zealand has ever seen – and the focus of all the fun is the Queens Wharf Fanzone, just across the road from us here at Britomart.
Celebrations centred around the Viaduct and Queens Wharf are expected to attract up to 50,000 people. To accommodate the crowds there will be road closures in place affecting Quay Street, Lower Albert Street and Lower Queen Street as well as Tyler, Galway, Commerce and Gore Streets.
Many of these roads closures take effect from 10pm on Thursday 8 September, leaving only limited access to the interior of the precinct all day on the 9th. There will be managed access points to allow businesses to receive deliveries up until midday on Friday.
Britomart Car Park will remain open 24 hours a day throughout the celebrations, with access unaffected from Britomart Place and westbound on Quay Street.
Get into it or get going
Auckland Transport is advising anyone not intending to stay in the CBD for the celebrations to leave the city by 3.30pm.
Some bus stops will be temporarily relocated for the whole day on Friday. Those commuting home by train will need to use the Britomart Transport Centre entrance located at Atrium on Takutai from 5pm. Commuter train services will reduce in frequency from around 3.30pm to allow extra match services to be put in place.
From 5pm normal train services between Morningside and Britomart on the Western Line will be suspended and replaced by special rail buses. These will depart from a temporary bus stop at 36 Customs Street East, outside the Australis-Nathan Building.

Watching the rugby?
Britomart is both the free transport gateway to all the rugby games at Eden Park (and North Harbour Stadium) and an excellent place to watch matches live in bars.
