Setup Underway For Mika Stage Show This Friday

Preparations are now underway in the centre of the precinct for Mika’s Aroha Mardi Gras, the variety show taking place in Takutai Square this Friday 23 September. A stage is under construction and lighting and sound pack-in will happen progressively over the week.

Mika’s Aroha Mardi Gras is a free, family-friendly event that will be filmed for a feature programme to air on Māori Television in October. There will be two performances on Friday evening, taking place at 6pm and 8pm.

In addition to the performances on Friday, there will be a full dress rehearsal on Thursday evening. This will necessitate road closures in the centre of the precinct all day Thursday and Friday, with permitted access only for residents and businesses.

Road closures will be as follows:

Thursday 22 September, 7am to 10pm
Tyler Street between Gore Street and Britomart Place
Galway Street between Gore Street and Britomart Place
Gore Street between Tyler and Galway Streets

Friday 23 September, 6am to 10pm
Tyler Street between Commerce Street and Britomart Place
Galway Street between Commerce Street and Britomart Place
Gore Street between Quay and Customs Streets

Access to Britomart Car Park from both Quay Street and Britomart Place remains unaffected throughout this period.

There will be an amplified sound system in operation during both the dress rehearsal and the main event, from 6pm to 10pm on Thursday and Friday.
